Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift from God.
I think for many of us accomplishments define who we are, how we view others and is the deciding factor when taking advise from people. We feel good when we accomplish something, a since of pride in our efforts to see something thru and over the course of time accomplishments will motivate us and others. This is a good thing however, when it comes to things we do as believers God wants us to understand something.
When we serve the world we use instruments to accomplish the work. When we serve God, “we are the instrument” in which work gets accomplished. You see the difference. God gets the glory, God did the work. You’ll never see a pen giving a speech at the Grammys for an award winning script, you’ll see the person who used the pen to write the script. That’s what this verse is about…understanding that grace is nothing we achieved on our own and should boast in but has been given to us as a gift from God.
We don’t work for gifts do we?… It’s as easy as opening a present on Christmas. That’s the point being made here. Everything else we’ll have to work for until he comes to get us but the gift of grace thru faith purchased thru Jesus Christ we can receive freely, everyday. That’s very comforting…a freebie, we all love freebies and this one is eternal.
Now get to work! ha ha ha
