Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
You ever wonder why Jesus didn’t just stay with us on earth. Why did he go at such an early age of 33. Something I used to think about because we have pastors that are of good age and they are still here doing Gods work and I thought it would make sense for Jesus to hang around at least until his older years.
Alright, well here’s my observation. “As a man” Jesus did all the work in his time literally. His disciples followed him around kind of like crowd control it seems. All the miracles and great messages were all done by Jesus during his ministry “as a man”. His main purpose “as a man” however, was to be a living sacrifice for the sins of the world. To establish his kingdom first in our hearts. Something that wasn’t completely understood by many while he was with us. That’s why, after this verse, the one that follows Acts 1:9 is him ascending into the clouds.
By him ascending, the disciples were activated, spreading the good news, performing miracles and being a living testimony to his resurrection. We today, have history that shows what Jesus already knew. That so much more would get done with him in spirit than as a man. Why, because he did the work on the cross, giving us access to the father directly and as the verse says “we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us”. God wants to use us to proclaim his name to the ends of the earth. We can be a part of his will getting done thru his spirit. I think somewhere inside us, we all want to be a part of something big… well this is it. Let the spirit of Jesus Christ move in your life.
I thought this was cool to share because the fact that we even know this to be true is because believers led by this spirit long before us were faithful, exercising this power in the holy spirit and it is my hope that we pass that torch to our generation in honor of what Jesus did for us and the revealing power that he has given us in his spirit. The spirit, wrap this around you today, the very same spirit that enabled Jesus to go to a horrible death on the cross is accessible to us. Certainly we can use this truth to face anything we are going thru today.
Say today “Spirit of the living God, fall a fresh on me” he’ll get you thru today and everyday.
