Acts 7:56-58 Look, he said, I see heaven open and the son of man standing at the right hand of God. At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him.
This verse is about a young believer named Steven. He had just told the members of the holy temple that everything they ever learned leads to Jesus the son of God but they became furious and could not accept that fact. They were unwilling to be taught. And so, as the verse says “they covered their ears and stoned him.”
They covered their ears… I think of my own life and my willingness to be taught. How often do I cover my ears? Often it’s right before I see heaven open and the son of man standing at the right hand of God. Not literally, but in a sense it’s right before God is wanting to teach me something, I close my ears and rush to stone the idea of learning something on his time only to end up feeling hit by bigger stones… then I’m willing to listen on my time.
The fact is, it’s all in his time, school is always in session, even in our sleep God is wanting to speak to you with dreams. Don’t stone the throne, pass him the microphone. The bible says my sheep hear my voice, God knows your schedule, there are things in this world we must do to live, we need to be entertained, we need rest, food, there’s bills to be paid, our jobs, family time but don’t forsake the teaching of his word, his guidance for you each day and all day.
This really spoke to me and I hope for you as well. Let’s not give God the leftovers of our day with our ears closed until we are ready to hear. Them stones will pile up.
