1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
Well it’s pretty clear. If you want to be heard and prayers answered then righteousness is the deal breaker. I remember praying to be delivered from addiction for many many years but it never seemed to happened. Why? Disbelief. I had been doing wrong so long it just wasn’t believable to think I’d ever be free and thus I prayed without faith he could help me.
The bible says it is impossible to please God without faith which in this case means if you’re praying to God you’re simply wasting your time unless you truly believe that he is God and capable of answering your prayer. When I prayed, I prayed in disbelief that I could really be forever free from addiction because I was simply unrighteous, unrepentive and lacking faith in other words “Evil” and his face was against me.
My prayers are much more simple these days and I’m so thankful but the requirements are still the same no matter the case. We must come to him in prayer with 3 important things.
1. Repentance – Ask the Lord for forgiveness not just from obvious evil but from doubt, stress, confusion etc asking that he create a clean heart in you.
2. Righteousness – When we truly repent and are filled once again with the holy spirit we receive his righteousness and his ears are attentive. Not only that, we will also ask for the right things when we do pray.
3. Faith – With little or no faith we limit what he can do. This is important because if we pray in doubt we can actually become upset with God over time for not answering our prayers not knowing the root is really our lack of faith that’s causing it.
Alright that’s a rap…have a righteous weekend.
