Word Up — Even after getting stoned, jailed, beaten

2 Corinthians 12:9 My grace is sufficient for you.

The apostle Paul inspired by God wrote 3/4 of the new testament. That’s pretty amazing. To many, including myself, Paul was the man! He served like no other, even after getting stoned, jailed, beaten and who knows what else. He covered more real estate on foot then most of us have done in a car spreading the gospel and you would think a request to God from Paul would surely be granted.

This verse is God’s answer to Paul requesting something be removed from him. A problem obviously, the bible doesn’t really say exactly what it was but it’s described as a thorn in the flesh… doesn’t sound good. Some say it might have been a vision problem which could’ve been a result of being stoned. It’s also written that he received (a messenger from satan) although that sounds extremely terrifying, satan is clever and doesn’t always come on the seen lookin like the exorcist… this messenger could’ve been beautiful, something more of a temptation, a desire Paul may have had in his flesh maybe one with Vegas written all over it. We don’t know.

In any case, God’s answer was “My grace is sufficient for you” What??? I’m serving you, I’m reading the bible, I’m praying, I’m trying to change… and now I’m asking for a little help here. The very thing you might be asking God to remove right now could be the only thing that’s keeping you in his grace.

Recognize those things that are keeping you humble and crying out to him and you will understand this verse and see that his grace is sufficient and necessary for us to be saved and live saved. It might be living paycheck to paycheck that’s keeping you humble. It might be that illness that reminds us our bodies are temporary. It might be constant family turmoil that has you turning to God for help.. continue to pray but trust that God knows what he’s doing in your situation. In many cases it might not even be about you, it could be God working thru you to reach someone else who might be watching how you handle something.

In Pauls case we see how he handled it. He ran the race to win and finished it and the proof is for all to read. Thank you Paul for being faithful and thank you Lord for your grace.

Song of Solomon Study

This is the story of a young girl as she encounters sex, love, romance, marriage and relationship with a guy. She starts out thinking that maybe she is good looking and might be acceptable to a guy. She becomes strong and confident in who she is and in her ability to bring contentment to her husband. A major part of the book is written in her voice: What she says, what she thinks, what she hears him saying. This little book in the Bible can provide some powerful insights. Are you ready to give it a try? Study Song of Solomon
