Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God
The story of King David comes to mind here. Brief summary… a man named Jesse had like 7 sons all which had outward qualities that were clear to see. They were called together to be named the next king of Israel. Samuel was to anoint one of these sons to be the next king. He went down the line looking at these Avengers, X-MEN, Super hero types and tells the father Jesse none of these will do, is there another son you have that is not here? The father Jesse said SMH…uh… the youngest one David but he’s out in the field tending to the sheep lookin like Urkel from Family Matters.
Well, Samuel the prophet said that’s the one, bring his goofy butt over here, let’s do this! The message of that story is that God looks at the heart. David’s heart was right or “Pure” and because of that he was blessed, blessed to the point of being King. I think it’s safe to say he didn’t see that coming. God did and showed himself in a mighty way.
The message to you and me is that if we have a clean heart one without selfish ambition outside of God’s will, one that truly wants to serve God in whatever we are doing…rather it’s just being faithful at your job, showing self control in your sport, humility in your relationships or being a part of your church, God is going to show himself and when he does… it’s gonna blow your mind.
The heart of the matter, is the matter of the heart!
