For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
II Timothy 1:7 NIV
When you become a Christian and the spirit of God comes in you, you have these three things — power, love, self-discipline. They are standard equipment on each Christian. You can use them and they will grow stronger, or not use them and they will shrivel up and not be worth much. But you have them.
Without much Power, people won’t even pay attention to the other two. They will simply push past you on the way to the basket. The love here is the kind listed in I Corinthians 13. It starts with patient and kind, and stops with love never ends. When you let love grow it increases your tolerance of team mates when they make a mistake. It smooths over things that could become issues. And self-discipline. This is the one that works kind of like a combines gas pedal and brake on a car. You are constantly adjusting the power and the love. This is the one that helps you choose which one to use at a given time.
